Our Staff
The brief descriptions below are designed to familiarize you with our staff's training, professional credentials and work experience.

Dr. John Doolan

  • DPM at N.Y. College of Podiatric Medicine

Dr. Doolan attended undergraduate school at Binghamton University in New York, where he received a Bachelors of Science Degree in Biology. He went on to graduate with a DPM from The New York College of Podiatric Medicine, followed by 5 years of residency training, finishing at Interfaith Medical Center in Brooklyn.

Dr. Doolan is extensively trained in reconstructive foot surgery, including arthroscopic, endoscopic, and external fixation techniques.

    

Dr. Doolan is currently on staff at Cabrini Medical Center, St. Vincent’s Hospital, Beth Isreal Medical Center, Interfaith Medical Center, Boulevard Surgical Center, and Gramercy Park Surgery Center where he is the Clinical Podiatric Supervisor and on site residency director. He also practices at the Cabrini Wound Healing Center, a multi-specialty facility dedicated to wound healing and limb salvage.

Dr. Doolan is board certified in foot surgery, by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery (ABPS). Dr. Doolan is a member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and the American Podiatric Medical Association. In addition, he serves on the executive Board of the New York State Podiatric Medical Association.

Dr. Doolan actively supports charity work through regular participation in medical missions. Since 2002, he has performed hundreds of surgeries and medical consultations for the impoverished people of the Philippines. Below are some pictures from the most recent medical mission.

Dr. Paul Betschart

Paul Betschart, DPM received his undergraduate training at the State University of New York at Albany. He went on to obtain a Masters degree from Barry University. He completed his medical studies at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine, where he was included in the Phi Delta honor society. Post graduate training at the residency and fellowship level were completed at Cabrini Medical Center in Manhattan.

Dr. Betschart received extensive training in reconstructive foot surgery and diabetic limb salvage. He continues to update his knowledge through continuing medical education.
Dr. Betschart is Board Certified by both the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and the American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics and Primary Podiatric Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.

Dr. Betschart’s Philosophy is to approach most problems from a non-surgical standpoint before proceeding to invasive techniques. Restoration of optimal function is the ultimate goal of every treatment plan.

Dr. Lisa Shah

Dr. Shah attended undergraduate school at Syracuse University in New York. She went on to graduate with a DPM from The Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine, followed by residency training at Cabrini Medical Center in NYC, where she was Chief Resident.

Dr. Shah is extensively trained in all aspects of foot surgery and wound care.
Dr. Shah is currently on staff at Cabrini Medical Center, Gramercy Surgical Center, and Surgicare Ambulatory Surgery Center of New York.

Dr. Shah is a member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, The American Podiatric Medical Association, and The New York State Podiatric Medical Association.

Dr. Joseph Larsen

Joseph Larsen, D.P.M., D.A.B.P.S attended undergraduate school at Hofstra University in New York. He received a Science Bachelor Degree in Biology. He then went on to the New York College of Podiatric Medicine, followed by a two year residency in foot surgery. Dr. Larsen received a DPM degree at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine and finished his two year residency at the VA Medical Center in Northport, New York where he was Chief Resident.

Dr. Larsen is extensively trained in all aspects of foot surgery, including Endoscopic and Arthroscopic procedures, Diabetic reconstructive foot surgery and is certified in Extracorpal Shockwave Therapy. He also has had extensive training with diabetic ulcers, wound healing and limb salvage procedures.

Dr. Larsen is a board certified Foot Surgeon by the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He is an active member and Diplomat of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He is also an active member of the American Podiatric Medical Association. Dr. Larsen is on staff at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, Northshore University Hospital, St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn and Gramercy Park Surgical Center.

Dr. Barlizo




Dr. Sharon R. Barlizo is a board certified podiatric physician, certified also in Pedorthics, Hyperbaric Medicine, Neurosensory Nerve/Muscle Testing and Ossatron. She is a graduate of Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine and holds a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Exercise Science and a specialization in Athletic Therapy from Concordia University. She received her Primary Podiatric Medicine Residency training at New York Methodist Hospital and completed her Podiatric Surgical training at Cabrini Medical Center. Dr Barlizo is affiliated with Gramercy Surgery Center, Metropolitan and Lincoln Hospital. She is the Director of Wound Care at the Foot Clinics of New York and serves as medical advisor to Aetrex Worldwide/foot.com. Currently she is an assistant professor with full-time faculty status at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine and adjunct faculty at University of Quebec in Trois-Rivieres, where she teaches Wound Care, Dermatology and Rheumatology. Her research interests are in Wound Care and Diabetes. Dr. Barlizo is a member of FAMI, the Filipino American Medical Incorporated group which is comprised of doctors, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists and other volunteers involved in providing free medical and surgical care, traveling to the Philippines serving the underprivileged and indigent population.

Dr. Pualine P. Fu

Dr. Pauline P. Fu received her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree from New York College of Podiatric Medicine with high honors. She then went on to complete three years of intensive surgical residency training at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, New York, where she was chief resident.

During that time, Dr. Fu received training in advanced surgical techniques including arthroscopy, plastic surgery, forefoot/rearfoot reconstructive surgery, and pediatric surgery at Schneider’s Children Hospital under the instructions of world renowned pediatric orthopedic surgeons. In addition to an intensive surgical training, Dr. Fu also received training at Fordham University treating NCAA athletes for podiatric problems and dysfunctional biomechanics. Other areas of Dr. Fu’s training included the North Shore-LIJ Wound Care Center where she actively participated in the planning and treatment of diabetic limb salvage and wound healing. Upon completion of her residency, Dr. Fu received an award for outstanding patient care and completed her research on a new technique in forefoot reconstructive surgery, which she presented to podiatric surgeons nationally at the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeon Conference 2008.

Dr. Fu is a four time New York City Marathon runner and enjoys an active lifestyle. She holds a special interest in treating and preventing athletic related injuries and orthotic design. Dr. Fu is a current member of the American Podiatric Medical Association, American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, and New York State Podiatric Medical Association.

Heather Spillane, L.Ac. , M.S.

Heather Spillane provides high-quality caring consultation, evaluation and treatment, treating the whole patient not just the disease. Heather’s integrative care utilizes the benefits of western and eastern medicine to provide a complete balance treatment.

 Ms. Spillane received her Master of Science at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine.  She is highly trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine including Acupuncture, Chinese Herbs, Meditation, Exercise, and Diet. She has been expanding her interests to area of health labeled autoimmune diseases, such as Diabetes, Uveitis, Anterior Lateral Sclerosis, Sickle Cell Anemia.

Heather has been in the healing profession since 1992 working at Long Island Jewish Medical Center as a counselor and Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center as a researcher specializing in emotional disorders. While pursuing a Ph.D. from Queens College she left to redirect her energies toward Traditional Oriental Medicine. Heather was one of the first responders to 9/11 treating victims and rescue workers.  She joined up with Acupuncture With-Out Borders to help those victims of the Katrina Disaster.
